Ethernet and Switching

Learn about the design, implementation and operation of Ethernet and its related technologies and standards. It is estimated that more than 98% of all data transmissions start and end on an Ethernet connection. This course provides a basic introduction to Ethernet, its protocol and related IEEE 802.3x standards. The course also discusses Ethernet Bridging and Switching, network design and approaches to Ethernet troubleshooting and management. Other technologies and standards associated with Ethernet such as Spanning Tree Protocol, link aggregation, Qos and VLANs are also covered. At appropriate stages in the course, practical laboratory exercises are also given so that students are exposed to the physical implementation and configuration of the technologies.
